SEAI Non-Domestic Solar PV Grant Explained: A Business Guide

If you’re a business owner, farmer, school, or community organisation in Ireland looking to reduce energy costs, the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgeneration Scheme (NDMG) offers grant funding to help cover the cost of installing solar PV panels. This scheme supports renewable energy generation for non-domestic properties, helping you lower electricity bills and cut carbon emissions while contributing to Ireland’s clean energy targets.

Who Can Apply?

The grant is available to:

  • Businesses across all sectors
  • Farms and agricultural enterprises
  • Public sector bodies
  • Schools and community centres
  • Non-profit organisations and societies
Grant Amounts (as of 2025)
  • 1kWp €900
  • 2kWp €1,800
  • 3kWp €2,100
  • 4kWp €2,400
  • 5–6kWp €2,400

  • 201–1000kWp €150 per kWp (maximum grant value €162,600)
Why is the Non-Domestic Grant Important?

The SEAI Non-Domestic Grant helps organisations offset the upfront cost of installing solar PV systems. It supports Ireland’s energy transition, reduces reliance on grid electricity, and enhances sustainability credentials for businesses and communities.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Go to the SEAI Portal
Access the SEAI Non-Domestic Grant Portal at mgen.seai.ie

Step 2: Register an Account
Select “Business Applicant,” enter your email address, create a password, and complete your registration. SEAI will send a verification email — click the link provided to activate your account.

Step 3: Create a New Application
Once logged in, select “Create New Application.” You’ll be asked for the MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) associated with your property. This number is found on your electricity bill and identifies your connection to the grid.

Step 4: Enter Address and Installation Details
When you enter your MPRN, the address should automatically populate. If it doesn’t, you can manually update it. Next, enter the planned system size in kWp (kilowatt-peak), your chosen registered installer, and the year your building was constructed (it must have been built and occupied before 2021).

Step 5: Enter Payment Details
Provide your organisation’s bank account information for where you’d like the grant payment sent once your project is complete and approved.

Step 6: Apply to ESB Networks
Before installation, an application must be submitted to ESB Networks to connect your system to the grid. Depending on your system size, this will be an NC6, NC7, or NC8 application. Lumen Solar can advise which one applies to your system.

Step 7: Install Your Solar PV System
Once your grant offer is approved and your grid connection application is confirmed, installation can proceed. Your chosen installer will complete the system and provide all required documentation.

Step 8: Submit Installation Documentation
After installation, you or your installer must upload all supporting documents to the SEAI portal. These typically include the installation certificate, test results, and photos of the completed system.

Step 9: Receive Your Grant Payment
Once SEAI verifies your submission, your grant payment will be processed and transferred directly to your nominated bank account.
